First marlin weighed

A report from the New Zealand Sport Fishing Council has announced the first marlin over 90kg has been weighed in for the game season.

Dave Lefever caught the 96.2 kg striped marlin yesterday December 31, boated at 12.04 pm.

Hundreds of anglers have been on the water around the country this summer trying to claim the first marlin of the season.

The fish was weighed by the Whangarei Deep Sea Anglers Club - which he is a member.

The Boat was E Fish NC and the Skipper Neville Draffin

The NZSFC says, it has been a closely fought battle once again with only a few hours between several fish, quite exciting.

Other striped marlin caught on the 31st included:

Tim Tasman-Jones - from the Doubtless Bay Sportfishing Club - 110 kg - 3.20 pm - Reel Angel - Skipper Leanne Dixon.

Lance Manins - from the Bay of Islands Swordfish Club - 99.60 kg -4.28 pm El Donna - Skipper - AJ Barton-Barry.

Raymond Spillane - Tauranga Sport Fishing Club - 97.60 kg - 4.30 pm - Game On - Skipper Heath Fairweather.
